Traffic stop in Picayune yields meth, prescription pills; two arrested
PICAYUNE, Mississippi — Two men were arrested after narcotics investigators reported finding methamphetamine and prescription pills during a traffic stop on Feb. 4, the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department said.
Sheriff’s officials said investigators stopped a 2005 Infiniti QX56 on Ceasar Road for disregard of traffic devices. The driver was identified as James Spence, 43, of Carriere, and the passenger as Cameron Franks, 20, also of Carriere.
Deputies arrested Spence for driving without a driver’s license, the department said. During an inventory of the vehicle, investigators reported locating methamphetamine and prescription medications identified as Adderall and oxycodone. Both men were taken into custody.
Spence was charged with felony possession with intent to distribute, felony possession of controlled substances and misdemeanor possession of controlled substances, the department said. Franks was charged with felony possession of controlled substances.
The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department is the primary law enforcement agency for the county, which includes the city of Picayune. Methamphetamine is an illegal controlled substance; Adderall and oxycodone are prescription medications regulated as controlled substances. Sheriff David Allison credited deputies and investigators for their work in drug enforcement efforts in the county.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
