Traffic moves on I-55, I-22 in Mississippi, agencies say
The Mississippi Department of Transportation and the Mississippi Department of Public Safety said in Facebook posts that traffic moved throughout the night and continues to move this morning in both directions on northbound and southbound Interstate 55 and on eastbound and westbound Interstate 22/Highway 78.
Both agencies, which monitor and manage the state’s roads and public safety response, urged drivers to remain diligent and cautious. The Mississippi Department of Transportation oversees highway maintenance and traffic operations, while the Mississippi Department of Public Safety coordinates law enforcement and emergency response on state roadways.
I-55 is a major north-south corridor through Mississippi that carries commuter and freight traffic, and I-22/Highway 78 serves as an important east-west route across the northern part of the state. Restored movement on these routes can ease delays for commercial traffic and daily commuters, officials noted.
Officials did not provide additional details about the conditions that previously affected traffic or the timing of clearance. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
