Tornado watch lifted; community safe room closes

The Tornado Watch for the area has been lifted and the Community Safe Room at 7312 Highway 51 has closed, a Facebook post said at 9:15 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2026.

The post said a Tornado Watch had been issued earlier Sunday at 4:00 p.m. and was in effect until 11 p.m. CDT before being lifted. The community safe room was opened for all citizens during the watch, the post said, and was closed after officials determined the immediate threat had passed.

Tornado watches mean conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop; a warning indicates a tornado has been sighted or detected by radar and requires immediate shelter. Community safe rooms are reinforced structures intended to offer protection during tornadoes and severe storms and are commonly made available by local authorities when watches or warnings are issued.

Residents are advised to continue monitoring local weather updates through official channels and be prepared to take immediate shelter if a tornado warning is issued. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
