A tornado warning is in effect for Lafayette, Lee and Pontotoc counties in Miss. until 5:30 p.m. CDT, according to a Facebook post.
The National Weather Service defines a tornado warning as a situation in which a tornado has been sighted or indicated by radar and immediate action is required. Residents in the warned area should seek safe shelter immediately, preferably in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, and avoid windows.
Tornadoes can produce dangerous winds, flying debris and damage to homes and infrastructure. Mobile homes, vehicles and outdoor activities present particular risk during tornado warnings and should be abandoned in favor of more secure shelter when possible.
