Three charged after contraband brought into Pearl River County jail
PEARL RIVER COUNTY, Miss. — Three people were charged after contraband was brought into the Pearl River County Correctional Facility during inmate visitation, the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department said.
Narcotics investigators responded to the facility Feb. 17 after receiving reports that contraband had been introduced during visitation, the department said. After the visit, correctional officers searched inmates and found Andrew Sellers, 23, in possession of contraband, according to the department.
Investigators determined that another inmate, Pharoah Lyons, 53, and a visitor, Kirby Haynes, 41, of Waveland, were involved in bringing the contraband into the facility, the department said. Sellers and Lyons were each charged with introduction of contraband into a correctional facility, and a warrant was issued for Haynes’ arrest.
On March 4, Haynes was arrested by the Waveland Police Department and transported to the Pearl River County Correctional Facility, where she was also charged with introduction of contraband into a correctional facility, the department said. Sheriff David Allison praised correctional officers for their efforts in detecting and preventing contraband from entering the facility, the department said.
Introducing contraband into a correctional facility is a criminal offense that can threaten the safety and security of staff and inmates and is routinely investigated by local law enforcement. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
