Three arrested after brief pursuit ends in Jackson crash

JACKSON — Three people were arrested after a driver fled from Capitol Police officers and crashed during a brief pursuit Wednesday night, authorities said.

Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop at about 8:33 p.m. on Feb. 25 near John R. Lynch Street and Arbor Vista Boulevard, authorities said. The driver failed to stop, leading to a short pursuit that ended when the vehicle wrecked at the intersection of Grand Avenue and West Capitol Street.

Police said three individuals inside the vehicle were taken into custody at the scene without further incident. The driver, 26-year-old Destiney Parks, was charged with felony fleeing. Passenger 31-year-old Keeunna Welch was charged with disorderly conduct for failure to comply with lawful commands, and 35-year-old Jeremy Crump was found to have an active warrant from the Ridgeland Police Department and was released to that agency’s custody.

Capitol Police are responsible for security and law enforcement at the state capitol complex and frequently respond to traffic and public-safety incidents in the area. No additional information was immediately released. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
