Teen pedestrian dies after weekend crash in Monroe County
AMORY, Miss. — A 19-year-old pedestrian injured in a Saturday crash in Monroe County died Sunday, Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley identified, WTVA reported.
Gurley identified the victim as Jake Harrison of Amory. The crash occurred on Boulevard Drive South near the intersection of Hatley Road. Emergency crews transported Harrison to a hospital in Amory and, because of the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to a hospital in Jackson, where he died Sunday morning, according to the report.
The Amory Police Department is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash, and officials have not released additional details about what led to the incident.
Amory is a city in northeastern Mississippi and serves as a local hub for Monroe County. Pedestrian crashes and traffic fatalities raise concerns for community safety and often prompt reviews of roadway conditions and emergency response.
