Teen charged after Tupelo shooting wounds victim in leg
TUPELO, Mississippi — A 17-year-old has been charged after a Sunday shooting on North Green Street left a person with a gunshot wound to the leg, the Tupelo Police Department said.
Officers responded April 12 to the area of North Green Street near Jefferson Street after reports of shots fired and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound, police said. Medical personnel transported the victim to North Mississippi Medical Center, authorities said.
After investigating the scene, officers and investigators with the Tupelo Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division collected evidence and identified a suspect. Police charged 17-year-old Kieston K. Williams of Tupelo with one count of aggravated assault, the department said.
Lee County Circuit Court Judge White ordered Williams held on a $50,000 bond on April 12, police said. The charge will be presented to the Lee County grand jury, authorities added.
Aggravated assault is a serious criminal charge that can carry significant penalties under state law. The Tupelo Police Department did not release additional details about the victim’s condition or the circumstances of the shooting. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
