Street sweeper driver killed in collision with 18-wheeler in Lowndes County
LOWNDES COUNTY — The driver of a street sweeper was killed Wednesday afternoon in a collision with an 18-wheeler on Industrial Park Road, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies responded to the crash at about 3 p.m. Feb. 18, 2026.
A preliminary investigation indicates the street sweeper driver was fatally injured in the collision, authorities said. The sheriff’s office said the 18-wheeler driver was not reported to have suffered life-threatening injuries.
Emergency responders and investigators remained at the scene for several hours while crews investigated the crash and cleared the roadway. Traffic on Industrial Park Road was temporarily affected during the response.
The identity of the person killed is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, and the crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.
