The City Street Department placed “No Thru Traffic” signs and additional barricades at the Holding Hands parking lot to prevent drivers from cutting through the lot to avoid nearby intersection construction, the department said in a Facebook post.
The post said the signs are on the Molly Barr Road and North Lamar Boulevard sides of the lot and that the City Engineering Department requested the extra barricades after drivers continued using the lot as a shortcut.
The department warned that while it may seem quicker, cutting through parking lots can create safety issues for pedestrians and for businesses that rely on safe, accessible parking. Motorists were urged to follow posted detour signs and to avoid driving around barricades while work continues at the intersection.
City officials thanked the public for its patience as the project moves forward and asked drivers to comply with traffic controls for everyone’s safety. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
