State official schedules 4 p.m. press conference on winter storm response

A Mississippi state official said in a Facebook post that they will hold another press conference at 4 p.m. to discuss a severe winter storm and the state’s response, and invited residents to “tune in live here on Facebook.”

The brief post uses the word “another,” indicating the state has held earlier briefings as it monitors and responds to the storm. State and local agencies typically use such updates to provide information on road conditions, power outages, closures and emergency services.

Severe winter storms can pose risks to public safety, disrupt travel and affect utilities. Officials commonly coordinate through emergency management, transportation departments and utility providers to restore services and advise the public. Residents are usually urged to avoid nonessential travel, check on vulnerable neighbors and follow local guidance.
