Starkville police teach safety to children at Safety Town

Members of the Starkville Police Department spent Thursday and Friday with local youth during Safety Town, the department said in a Facebook post.

Officers from Animal Control and Community Oriented Policing joined other community partners at the event hosted by the Junior Auxiliary of Starkville to share important safety lessons with elementary students from Starkville Public Schools, Starkville Academy and Starkville Christian School, the post said.

Safety Town is a common local program designed to teach young children age-appropriate safety skills through hands-on activities and demonstrations. Such programs typically aim to reduce injuries and build familiarity between children and first responders.

Police participation in community events is part of broader efforts to foster positive relationships with residents and provide preventive education to children, local officials and community groups often say. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
