Starkville police join leaders for Child Abuse Prevention Month luncheon
The Starkville Police Department said in a Facebook post that it joined community leaders at the SOSD Discovery Center for a Child Abuse Prevention Month Community Leader Luncheon to learn about resources available to families and the schedule of events for National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Participants came together to share information about local supports and planned activities, the department said. National Child Abuse Prevention Month, observed each April, seeks to raise awareness about child abuse and promote community-based prevention strategies.
The Starkville Police Department is the municipal law enforcement agency serving Starkville and often partners with schools, social services and community groups on public-safety and prevention initiatives. The SOSD Discovery Center, operated by the Starkville Oktibbeha School District, provides programs and resources intended to support children and families in the school district and surrounding area.
The department said more information on Child Abuse Prevention Month events and activities will be released soon. For more information on the SOSD Discovery Center, the post directed readers to the center’s website and Facebook page. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
