Starkville police investigate series of auto burglaries, two vehicles stolen

Starkville Police Department said Friday it is investigating a series of incidents reported during the early morning hours of March 6, 2026, that include 18 auto burglaries and two stolen vehicles.

Most of the reported incidents occurred at Lakeside Place Apartments, 1300 Old Highway 12, and within the Crossgates subdivision area, the department said. One of the stolen vehicles was recovered by law enforcement shortly after it was reported, and investigators have reported no signs of forced entry in any of the vehicles involved.

The department said the cases remain under active investigation and described auto burglaries as typically crimes of opportunity in which suspects check multiple vehicles in a short period. Officers reminded residents through the department’s 9 p.m. Routine to lock vehicle doors and secure valuables before bed.

Residents can register home security cameras with the department’s Community Connect program at connectstarkville.org and follow the department’s social media for updates. Officials urged motorists to lock vehicles, remove firearms and other valuables, and avoid leaving keys or key fobs inside. Anyone with information is asked to call the Starkville Police Department at 662-323-4131, Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151 or submit an anonymous tip online. Crime Stoppers may offer a cash reward. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
