Starkville Police Department said on its Facebook page that officers joined residents for Coffee with a Cop at East Mississippi Lumber Company this morning, thanking the business for hosting and attendees for taking time to participate.
“We appreciate everyone who stopped by East Mississippi Lumber Company this morning for Coffee with a Cop,” the department said. The post added that officers enjoyed the coffee and conversation and look forward to future events.
Coffee with a Cop events give residents an informal setting to speak with local officers about community concerns, build relationships and increase mutual understanding. Many police departments hold similar gatherings as part of community policing efforts to improve transparency and trust.
