Southaven K9 Dagger returns to service after recovery

Southaven Police Department said on Facebook that K9 Dagger has made a complete recovery and is back in service.

The department said Officer Gulde with his K9 partner, Raptor, and Officer Venegas with his K9 partner, Dagger gave a demonstration yesterday for the 5th Grade Spotlight class at Desoto Central Elementary School. The demonstration illustrated how a K9 may be deployed to assist with tracking and suspect apprehension.

Southaven Police Department, which serves the city of Southaven, Mississippi, regularly uses K9 teams for patrol, tracking, narcotics detection and community outreach. K9 demonstrations at schools are a common way for law enforcement agencies to teach students about public safety and the role of canine teams in policing.

The department said the presentation aimed to educate students about K9 capabilities and safety around working dogs. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
