Shooting kills 18-year-old at Jackson apartment
JACKSON — An 18-year-old man was found shot to death inside an apartment at the Rebelwood complex after officers were called at 5:15 p.m., Jackson police Chief Tyree Jones said.
Officers discovered a Black man who had been shot multiple times and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Jones said. There were no immediate arrests. Police detained several witnesses for questioning as investigators processed the scene.
In a news conference at the scene, Jones described the number of shell casings recovered as “concerning” and urged residents to avoid bringing firearms into disputes. Jones said people should seek nonviolent ways to resolve conflicts rather than introducing guns.
The shooting is the capital city’s 15th homicide of 2026, Jones said. Anyone with information is asked to contact Jackson police or Crime Stoppers. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
