Sheriff warns of falling trees, deteriorating road conditions near Tupelo
Sheriff Jim H. Johnson warned in a Facebook update on Jan. 25, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. that trees and large limbs continue to fall into roadways north of the city of Tupelo.
Johnson said road conditions are expected to deteriorate as temperatures plummet throughout the evening, and he urged motorists to use caution if they must travel, particularly on the north end of the county.
Law enforcement agencies commonly use social media to alert residents about hazardous conditions, road closures and safety precautions. Falling trees and large limbs can block lanes, damage vehicles and create additional hazards such as downed power lines, increasing the risk of crashes and delays for emergency responders.
Drivers are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, slow down, allow extra stopping distance and be prepared for sudden obstructions. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
