Sheriff Johnson mourns deputy killed in line of duty
Sheriff Jim H. Johnson said in a Facebook post that Deputy Michael Jimerson gave his life in the line of duty last night and extended his thoughts and prayers to the deputy’s family, friends and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and community of Deputy Michael Jimerson, as well as the men and women of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, as they mourn his tragic loss,” Johnson wrote. He added that Jimerson’s service and sacrifice will not be forgotten.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is the primary law enforcement agency serving its county’s communities, responding to emergencies, conducting criminal investigations and providing public safety services. Line-of-duty deaths have deep impacts on small departments and the communities they serve, often prompting department vigils, peer support and mutual-aid responses from neighboring agencies.
The sheriff’s post did not provide further details about the circumstances of Jimerson’s death. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
