Search continues for L.G. Shaw, missing since 2009 in Benton County

BENTON COUNTY, Mississippi — L.G. Shaw, a 76-year-old farmer and retired trucking company owner, has been missing since July 15, 2009, after he was last seen at his granddaughter’s home in Michigan City, family members said.

Family members said Shaw left his granddaughter’s home the morning of July 15 after telling her he could not locate one of his colts and planned to check on it. He was last seen wearing a plaid shirt and khaki pants, and did not return that evening. His granddaughter found his truck parked at the entrance to his pasture but did not find Shaw, the family said.

Relatives said Shaw kept cigarettes and a cell phone on his nightstand the day he disappeared — items he routinely carried — and that two wallets, one containing a large sum of money, were missing. Shaw’s home is in Benton County but his pasture crosses the state line into Hardeman County, Tennessee. The granddaughter initially contacted Hardeman County authorities, but officials said Benton County had jurisdiction because Shaw’s residence is there, family members said.

Family members, volunteers and a Tennessee-based search organization canvassed a seven-mile radius around Shaw’s home for seven days without finding him, his family said. Shaw is described as a Black male who was 76 at the time of his disappearance. Anyone with information is asked to contact his granddaughter, D’Aunna, at 731-609-9570.
