Road crews prepare for grass-cutting season

As grass-cutting season approaches, road maintenance crews said they will soon begin mowing along highways and in neighborhoods and are asking residents to help keep roadsides clear.

Crews said loose trash not only looks untidy but creates safety concerns. They cited criminology research, often called Broken Windows theory, which suggests that visible neglect can contribute to increased disorder, and said cleaner environments tend to promote lawful behavior and community accountability.

Officials said a trash-free roadside improves visibility, helps prevent flooding, protects workers and reflects community pride. They urged residents to secure items in vehicles, use covered trash containers and pick up litter when they see it.

Small individual actions can make a measurable difference, crews said. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
