Residential streets remain icy; courtesy rides continue for essential workers

Many residential streets remain icy and unsafe to travel despite most major roads and main thoroughfares being cleared, a Facebook post said. The post said the organization will continue providing courtesy rides for essential workers until side roads and neighborhood streets are safe for driving.

Neighborhood streets often take longer to receive snow and ice removal because municipal crews and private contractors typically prioritize arterial roadways, bus routes and emergency corridors. That can leave residents, overnight workers and people who rely on home services facing hazardous conditions.

Courtesy ride programs are commonly offered by community organizations, transit agencies or local governments to help essential workers—such as health care staff and emergency responders—reach workplaces when regular transport is unsafe or unavailable. Continuing those services can reduce the risk of traffic accidents and ensure critical staff can report for duty.

Residents are advised to avoid nonessential travel on icy side streets and to follow guidance from local authorities. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
