Reeves visits Tippah County, praises responders after severe winter storm

Gov. Tate Reeves said in a Facebook post that he was on the ground in Tippah County after a winter storm that left ice and snow across the area and caused many downed trees. He said the storm was worse than 1994’s historic storm.

Reeves said he met with nurses and the team at Tippah County Hospital, staff at Rest Haven Nursing Home, the sheriff and other local and state law enforcement. “They’re doing the Lord’s work — and they’re doing a heck of a job on behalf of their fellow Mississippians,” he wrote.

He said Rest Haven Nursing Home is using one of the generators “we deployed,” and added that “residents are warm, fed and their spirits are high.” Reeves praised the facility’s staff for their work during the storm.

Tippah County is in northeastern Mississippi. Severe winter storms can lead to power outages and downed trees that affect hospitals, nursing homes and emergency responders. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
