Reeves says Mississippi coordinates response to historic winter storm
Gov. Tate Reeves, R-Miss., said in a Facebook post that he met with U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, FEMA officials, military leadership, first responders and linemen as Mississippi continues to respond to severe winter weather.
Reeves wrote, “Today, I met with U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, FEMA, military leadership, first responders and linemen. The state of Mississippi continues to operate a coordinated, whole-of-government response to the severe winter weather. Thank you to all of our partners for helping Mississippi recover from this historic storm.”
Reeves is the chief executive of a state that often coordinates with federal agencies, the National Guard and local emergency teams after major storms. FEMA and military leaders typically assist with logistics, sheltering, debris removal and restoring critical services, while linemen work to repair downed power lines and restore electricity.
State and local coordination aims to speed recovery and prioritize safety for residents affected by extreme weather. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
