Rankin County deputies join McLaurin Schools career day

Rankin County Sheriff’s Department deputies joined other first responders to take part in Career Day at McLaurin Schools, the department said in a Facebook post. Lt. TJ Picou and Deputy Hunter Lewis provided students information about careers in law enforcement and public safety and introduced them to the department’s MRAP, Rook, and its UAS/drones.

The department said the event was held at McLaurin Schools on Star Road near Florence. Career days typically aim to expose students to a range of professions and give them direct contact with practitioners who can explain day-to-day responsibilities and training pathways.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department is the primary law enforcement agency for Rankin County, Mississippi. Local sheriff’s offices often use community events to build public trust, encourage interest in public-safety careers and demonstrate equipment and technology used in modern policing.

An MRAP is a heavily armored vehicle built for crew protection, and unmanned aerial systems, commonly called drones, are used by many agencies for reconnaissance and search operations. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
