Proclamation extends deadline for ad valorem taxes in 49 Mississippi counties

A state proclamation extends the deadline for residents in 49 Mississippi counties to submit ad valorem taxes to county tax collectors and delays fines for late submission, a Facebook post said.

The post said, “I’ve signed a proclamation that extends the deadline for Mississippians in the 49 impacted counties to submit ad valorem taxes to county tax collectors and delays fines for not submitting them.” The new deadline to pay ad valorem taxes in the impacted counties is March 3, 2026.

The impacted counties include Adams, Alcorn, Attala, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Carroll, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Claiborne, Clarke, Clay, Coahoma, Desoto, Grenada, Hinds, Holmes, Humphreys, Itawamba, Jefferson, Lafayette, Leake, Leflore, Lowndes, Marshall, Monroe, Montgomery, Newton, Oktibbeha, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Rankin, Smith, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union, Warren, Washington, Webster, Wilkinson, Yalobusha and Yazoo.

Ad valorem taxes are property taxes based on the assessed value of property and are typically collected by county tax offices. The proclamation, as described in the post, pauses the assessment of fines for missed submissions in the named counties until the new deadline, easing immediate penalties for residents in those areas.

The announcement was posted on Facebook; the post is the source of the proclamation language. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
