Prentiss County investigator struck by vehicle during traffic stop
Prentiss County investigator Kolby Knight was struck by a motorist while conducting a traffic stop on Highway 371 north of Marietta and is being treated in an emergency room in Tupelo, a Facebook post said. The post said Knight is alert and talking and that medical staff are still assessing his injuries.
Prentiss County is in northeastern Mississippi. County investigators are county law enforcement officers who typically handle investigations and assist sheriff’s offices with criminal cases and traffic enforcement.
The incident highlights the risks officers face during routine traffic stops, which can expose law enforcement personnel to moving vehicles and other hazards. Community members on social media asked for prayers and support for Knight while authorities and medical staff evaluate his condition.
Details about the crash, the motorist involved and Knight’s specific injuries were not released. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
