PRCSO warns public about scam calls demanding money

PRCSO warned the public in a Facebook post that any phone call or text demanding payment and claiming to be from the agency or any law enforcement affiliation is a scam.

“PRCSO will never call you to request money for any reason,” the post said, urging residents not to provide personal information, bank details or payment to anyone they have not met. The agency said callers may use the names of real employees, but that alone does not make the call legitimate.

The post advised recipients to hang up and call the agency’s direct number to verify any claim and reminded people that law enforcement will never request payment over the phone. For questions or to report suspicious activity, the post listed Central Dispatch at 601-749-5482.

Scam calls and texts that impersonate law enforcement or demand money have targeted communities nationwide in recent years. PRCSO encouraged residents to stay vigilant and share the warning with friends and family. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
