PRCC welding students build grill for Hattiesburg police

Hattiesburg Police Department on Monday thanked students and instructors from Pearl River Community College’s Welding Program for designing and building a custom grill that will serve officers and the broader community, the department said in a Facebook post.

Department officials said the project took place over the past year at PRCC’s Hattiesburg campus. Officer David Matos partnered with the welding program to replace an older grill that was no longer usable, and students completed the piece as a hands-on learning project.

The department said the grill will support fundraising through the Hattiesburg Police Department Benefit Fund, which provides financial assistance to officers and staff during emergencies. The grill also will be used at community outreach events such as Popsicles in the Park, the post said.

Pearl River Community College is a regional community college that offers career and technical programs, including welding, which emphasize hands-on skill development and local partnerships. The Hattiesburg Police Department said it is grateful to the students and instructors for their time, skill and craftsmanship. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
