Police seek suspect after shots fired at Sonic Drive-In

STARKVILLE, Mississippi — Officers with the Starkville Police Department responded Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026, at 10:47 a.m. to reports of shots fired at the Sonic Drive-In at 913 Highway 12 West, the department said in a news release.

Investigators determined a firearm was discharged during an altercation between individuals who are known to each other. No injuries were reported, but a vehicle was struck by gunfire, the release said.

The department has issued an arrest warrant for Jakobe George, 19, of Sturgis, who is being sought by law enforcement. The news release noted that “discharging a firearm at another individual is a serious and dangerous criminal act, regardless of whether anyone is injured.”

Starkville police said their SWAT team executed multiple search warrants at several locations as part of the ongoing investigation. Several persons of interest, ranging in age from 16 to 19, are currently in custody, and additional charges may be forthcoming.
