Pike County sheriff urges residents to limit travel during extreme cold

Sheriff Bryant “Wally” Jones of the Pike County Sheriff’s Office urged residents to limit travel over the next several days because of projected inclement and extremely cold weather, the office said in a Facebook post.

“As your Sheriff, your safety is my number one priority,” Jones wrote. He added, “My team and I are here to serve you in any way we can; however, we respectfully ask that you limit travel as much as possible.”

In the post, Jones said unnecessary travel increases the risk of accidents and could place deputies and other emergency responders in harm’s way while they respond to avoidable situations. He encouraged residents to exercise caution, stay safe and look out for one another.

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office issues advisories like this when hazardous weather could threaten public safety. Extreme cold can heighten the risk of traffic incidents and pose health risks for vulnerable residents. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
