Pike County deputies find no evidence of shooting on Interstate 55
Pike County Sheriff’s Office said deputies found no evidence of a shooting after responding to a call reporting a possible gunfire incident near the northbound rest area on Interstate 55.
Deputies secured the scene and searched the area but were unable to locate suspects, victims, witnesses or any physical evidence indicating a shooting had occurred, the office said.
The statement said Sheriff Gerald Sticker was contacted and requested that deputies also check a southbound rest area just inside Louisiana because Pike County units were closer to that location. A short time later, Central Dispatch informed Sheriff Bryant Wally Jones that one of the involved parties reported a disturbance at the rest area and said they were at the Love’s Truck Stop in Fernwood.
A Pike County deputy met with both parties at the truck stop and secured the scene until the Mississippi Highway Patrol arrived. The office said the incident was turned over to the Mississippi Highway Patrol because it occurred within that agency’s jurisdiction.
The sheriff’s office said there is no evidence of a shooting, no reported injuries and no indication anyone was shot. Sheriff Bryant Wally Jones thanked Pike County deputies, Central Dispatch and the Mississippi Highway Patrol for their assistance. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
