Picayune police recognize Autism Awareness Month, offer free decals
The Picayune Police Department is recognizing Autism Awareness Month and is offering free window decals to help first responders identify residents on the autism spectrum, the department said in a Facebook post.
The department urged residents this month to learn more about autism, practice patience and understanding, support families and caregivers, and celebrate the abilities of people on the spectrum.
Officials said residents who would like first responders to be aware that someone in their home or vehicle is on the autism spectrum may stop by the police department at 5000 Wildwood Drive to receive a free decal. The decals are available while supplies last, the department said.
April is widely observed as Autism Awareness Month, a time when public agencies and advocacy organizations promote understanding of autism spectrum disorder, a developmental condition that affects social communication and behavior. The Picayune Police Department posted the announcement on its Facebook page. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
