Pedestrian killed in late-night crash on U.S. 61 in Adams County
ADAMS COUNTY, Mississippi — A Natchez man was killed late Sunday after being struck by a vehicle on U.S. Highway 61, the Mississippi Highway Patrol said.
The crash occurred about 10:45 p.m. March 22 when a 2019 Dodge Charger traveling southbound struck a pedestrian who was also walking south along the highway, the patrol said. Authorities identified the victim as 29-year-old Devon Harper of Natchez. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, 24-year-old Elijah Marsaw of Vidalia, Louisiana, was not reported injured, the Mississippi Highway Patrol said. Investigators did not immediately release additional information about the circumstances of the collision.
U.S. Highway 61 is a major north-south route that carries local and through traffic across Mississippi. The Mississippi Highway Patrol handles investigations of traffic fatalities statewide to determine factors such as vehicle speed, lighting and pedestrian location.
