Panel discusses trauma, safety at MSU Extension outreach event
Starkville Police Department said in a Facebook post that Chief Mark Ballard, Judge Lee Ann Turner, Hannah Seymore and a representative of the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Mississippi, Sheila Brand, recently served as panelists for “Connecting the Dots: Disseminating Outreach on Trauma and Safety,” led by MSU Extension’s Dr. Lori Staton.
The post said the session aimed to give extension agents greater knowledge and insight into the challenges youth and families face in Mississippi so they can better address adverse childhood experiences and trauma in their communities.
MSU Extension is the outreach arm of Mississippi State University and provides community education on topics ranging from agriculture to health and family well-being. Extension agents often serve as local educators and connectors to resources, making training on trauma and safety relevant to their work.
Children’s advocacy centers and abuse-and-neglect coordinators play roles in supporting victims, coordinating services and educating community partners. Addressing adverse childhood experiences can influence long-term health and social outcomes, and officials said the panel sought to strengthen local responses.
Starkville Police Department posted the announcement on its Facebook page. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
