Oxford police warn motorists to avoid Oxford Way after power poles knocked over
Oxford police asked motorists to avoid Oxford Way and warned that traffic may be impacted on Old Taylor Road and South Lamar, the department said in a post on its Facebook page. The post said “a couple of power poles have been knocked over.”
The brief advisory did not provide further details about the cause of the damage or whether anyone was injured, and the department did not immediately release additional information, according to the post.
Downed power poles can create traffic hazards and disrupt electrical service for nearby homes and businesses. Oxford is home to the University of Mississippi and can see increased traffic at peak hours, making delays and road closures particularly disruptive for commuters, students and local residents.
Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and exercise caution in the area until crews secure the scene and utility companies restore service. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
