Oxford police praise city response to Ice Storm Fern

The Oxford Police Department said on its Facebook page earlier today that it appreciates Mayor Tannehill, the Board of Aldermen, EMA Director Shane Fortner and others who recognized city departments for their work during Ice Storm Fern.

The department said the recognition came after multiple city departments assisted during the storm. Oxford, Mississippi, home to the University of Mississippi, relies on coordinated municipal response during severe weather to restore services and keep residents safe.

City emergency responses typically involve police, fire, public works and emergency management agencies working together to clear roads, restore utilities and check on vulnerable residents. The police department said the acknowledgment highlights the role of interagency cooperation in helping the community recover from winter storms.

In its post, the department wrote that it appreciates the mayor, aldermen and EMA leadership for recognizing the work of all city departments and added, “We have a great City full of great people who all pulled the rope in the same direction to help our community.”

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
