Oxford police host mentorship course to strengthen leadership

Oxford Police Department said earlier this week it hosted Bridge the Gap: Agency Success Through Mentoring, a course designed to strengthen leadership, professional growth and organizational stability through effective mentorship.

In a Facebook post, the department said several members participated in the training and gained tools to guide future employees, strengthen agency culture and support long-term career development. Topics included mentorship best practices, defining mentor roles, succession planning and building stronger support systems within law enforcement agencies.

The Oxford Police Department is the municipal law enforcement agency serving Oxford, Mississippi. Police departments across the country have increasingly emphasized mentorship and succession planning as tools to improve retention, smooth leadership transitions and maintain public safety amid changing workforce dynamics.

Department leaders said the training reflects an ongoing commitment to investing in personnel and improving agency operations. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
