Oxford Police host journalism students for department visit
The Oxford Police Department said it recently partnered with Dr. Debora Wenger’s University of Mississippi School of Journalism and New Media class to give students a closer look at department operations and community policing.
The department posted about the visit on its official Facebook page, saying the event promoted “learning beyond the classroom” and thanking the class for visiting. The post included the hashtag #OxfordPD.
The University of Mississippi’s School of Journalism and New Media trains students in reporting, multimedia storytelling and ethical journalism. Faculty-led field visits to government and public safety agencies are commonly used in journalism education to provide students firsthand experience that complements classroom instruction.
Officials with the Oxford Police Department and the university did not provide additional details in the post about what the students observed or how many attended. Such partnerships can help aspiring reporters better understand law enforcement procedures and community issues they may cover professionally. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
