Oxford police honor Captain Donovan Lyons with celebration

OXFORD, Miss. — The Oxford Police Department said in a Facebook post that a special Celebration of Service proclamation honoring Captain Donovan Lyons was formally read before the Board of Aldermen on Tuesday night in recognition of his years of service and commitment to the community.

The department invited residents to attend Donovan’s Celebration of Service on Friday, March 27 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the police department. The post encouraged people to stop by to congratulate him, share memories and wish him well on “this next chapter.”

The Oxford Police Department is the municipal law enforcement agency responsible for public safety in Oxford. Proclamations read by a city board are a customary way for municipal officials to publicly acknowledge the service of local employees and community leaders.

The event offers an opportunity for community members to recognize a longtime officer and to highlight the relationship between the department and the people it serves. Public gatherings to honor personnel can also affect departmental morale and community trust.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
