Oxford issues precautionary boil-water notice after pressure-related disconnections
The City of Oxford has issued a precautionary boil-water notice for portions of its water system after some service lines were temporarily disconnected because of system pressure issues, the city said on its official Facebook page.
Officials directed residents in affected areas to review a map of the impacted zones at https://txts.cc/4rhbPBP. The city said the disconnections were a response to pressure problems in the distribution system.
Boil-water notices are precautionary public health measures intended to reduce the risk of waterborne contamination when system pressure drops or when repairs require service interruptions. Low pressure can allow contaminants to enter pipes; as a result, health authorities typically advise customers to boil water before drinking, preparing food or using it for oral hygiene until tests confirm the water is safe.
The City of Oxford advised residents in the affected areas to follow the notice and any additional guidance posted on the city’s official channels. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
