One taken to hospital after Natchez house fire

NATCHEZ, Mississippi — One person was taken to a hospital after a house fire late Sunday at a home on Mimosa Drive, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies were dispatched about 8:18 p.m. April 12 to 112 Mimosa Drive after a 911 caller reported a fire, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies arrived about six minutes later and found smoke coming from the rear of the residence. Fire units were already en route and began working to assess and contain the blaze.

Initial reports indicated the fire started in the back area of the home, authorities said. Firefighters limited most of the damage to one section of the residence, but interior areas showed visible fire, smoke and heat damage, especially in the living area and nearby parts of the house.

Entergy and Atmos Energy responded to help secure the residence and make sure there were no additional hazards, the sheriff’s office said. One person was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation because of smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Natchez is the county seat of Adams County in southwestern Mississippi. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
