BELZONI, Mississippi — One person was killed and at least five others were injured in a shooting late Saturday on Silver City Road in Belzoni, authorities said.
Deputies and officers with the Belzoni Police Department responded to multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired and found several people suffering from gunshot wounds upon arrival, officials said. At least five people were transported for treatment, and one victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.
The scene was secured and the investigation remains ongoing, the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office said. The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact authorities at 662-247-2551.
Belzoni is the county seat of Humphreys County in the Mississippi Delta. Violent incidents such as this can raise community concerns about public safety and typically prompt further investigative and community outreach efforts by local and county law enforcement.
