Officials urge public not to go around barricades

An organization that posted on Facebook warned the public to obey barricades, saying, “Please do not go around barricades. We have them out for a reason,” the post said.

Barricades are commonly used to protect people from hazards such as road work, infrastructure damage, emergency scenes or public events. Agencies and safety personnel place barriers to reduce the risk of injury and to keep work and response areas clear.

Going around barricades can create hazards for pedestrians and drivers and can interfere with the work of emergency responders and maintenance crews. It can also lengthen response times and complicate efforts to secure a scene or complete repairs.

Officials recommend that people respect posted closures and seek alternate routes when barriers block a roadway or pathway. The Facebook post did not provide additional details about the location or reason for the barricades. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
