Officials coordinate response to clear stalled vehicles on I-55

Officials said they completed a coordinating call with law enforcement, the Mississippi Department of Transportation, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and National Guard leadership to clear stalled vehicles and assist stranded motorists on Interstate 55 in north Mississippi.

The social media post said assets have been swarmed — from drones to first responders to wreckers — in an effort to remove disabled vehicles and render the highway passable.

I-55 is a major north-south interstate that runs through Mississippi and serves as a key route for commerce and travel. State transportation and emergency agencies typically manage roadway clearance and public safety during incidents that block traffic.

Officials said conditions remain dangerous and urged motorists to avoid travel when possible and to take all available safety measures. Clearing stalled vehicles helps reduce secondary crashes and allows emergency vehicles to reach people in need.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
