Officer Amanda Roy honored for off-duty storm response
Officer Amanda Roy was recognized by her department with the Strive to Buzz award after helping residents following a recent storm, the department said on its Facebook page.
The department said Roy spent time off duty cutting up fallen trees and assisting people affected by storm damage, stepping in to help neighbors in need.
At a department lunch, retired Secret Service agent Pete Allison joined department members to read a letter he wrote commending Roy for her care, professionalism and dedication while aiding the community, the post said.
Police departments often recognize personnel who provide extraordinary service, including off-duty assistance during emergencies, because those actions can bolster public safety and community trust. The department said it is proud to have officers who serve the community whether they are on the clock or not.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
