NE SPARC warns against reporting fiber outages through power system

NE SPARC said in a Facebook post that customers should not report fiber outages through the power outage reporting system because doing so adds additional entries to the utility’s dispatching system and slows restoration efforts.

The post directs customers to report fiber problems by calling the NE SPARC help desk at 1-833-NESPARC. NE SPARC also is posting updates on its social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram and X.

Fiber outages involve disruptions to fiber-optic cable networks that carry internet, voice and data traffic. Utilities and communications providers often use separate reporting and dispatch systems for power and communications infrastructure to make sure crews are routed efficiently and safety protocols are followed.

Using the correct reporting channel helps prioritize calls and can speed repairs for customers affected by communications outages. Customers who experience service interruptions should use the NE SPARC help desk number or check the organization’s social feeds for updates. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
