Mississippi urges residents to prepare for weekend winter weather
With winter weather expected this weekend, a Facebook reel urged residents to begin preparations and said it has partnered with the Mississippi Department of Transportation to provide tips for readying homes and vehicles.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation, which oversees state highways and routinely coordinates road maintenance and travel advisories during severe weather, has frequently worked with local agencies to share preparedness guidance, the post said.
General preparedness measures include ensuring heating systems function, keeping a supply of food and medications on hand, and assembling an emergency kit with water, flashlights and batteries. For vehicles, common recommendations are to check tires and batteries, maintain a sufficient fuel level, carry warm clothing and blankets, and keep an emergency kit with jumper cables and other basic tools.
Officials say advance preparations can reduce the risk of being stranded and help emergency crews focus on critical incidents. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
