Mississippi outages drop below 100,000 as linemen continue restorations

For the first time since Sunday morning, total power outages in Mississippi dropped below 100,000, a Facebook post said. The post said progress has been made but that a significant number of customers remain without power.

The post credited the improvement to crews working in cold conditions and offered appreciation for the workers. It said there is “HUGE thanks to the linemen from our state – and across the country – that are already out this morning helping get the lights back on!”

Linemen and utility crews typically respond to widespread outages caused by storms, ice or wind, repairing damaged lines and restoring service. Utilities often coordinate mutual aid from other states to speed restorations, and work can be slow when crews face cold temperatures and difficult access.

Officials did not provide further details in the post about when full restoration is expected. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
