Mississippi National Guard opens food and water distribution sites in Lafayette County
Mississippi National Guard is distributing MREs and water in Lafayette County and the city of Oxford on Jan. 31 from 12 to 4 p.m., the Guard said in a Facebook post. Supplies will be handed out while they last.
The post listed distribution sites in Lafayette County at Harmontown SO Substation, 12 CR 517; Lafayette High School, 160 Commodore Drive; Lafayette County Fire Station 3, 22 CR 369; and Oasis Church, 861 Highway 6 West.
In the city of Oxford, the post listed City Hall, CB Webb and Wayne Johnson Thacker at Garden Terrace. Officials said the Guard will limit distribution to up to three days’ worth per person to help ensure supplies reach as many residents as possible.
The Facebook post asked residents to be patient and kind, noting the sites are staffed by members of the National Guard working to serve the community. The Mississippi National Guard frequently assists with emergency relief and community support operations following storms and other events.
